Jim Tyrrell- Live Review

Jim Tyrrell- Live Review

Jim Tyrrell, - Jim is a guy I have heard a lot about, from lots of places and lots of people. I have even seen him a play live a time or two. I’ve also heard him on 100.1 FM a lot. I even have watched him sleep (shhh- don’t tell him… I broke into his house and videoed him snoring for a few hours). This past weekend he was up in Tamworth playing at the 17th Annual New England Homebrewers Jamboree! It was a weekend full of drinking, music, dancing, and a guy who loved to make announcements in the middle of musician’s sets. There was a lot of music all weekend- Jim Tyrrell was one of those acts.

During the weekend Jim played two sets of music; One Friday night and one Saturday afternoon…. Wait- I think he also played late late late Friday night- I don’t know though- I was pretty drunk by that point. I guess it could have been a hot pink pelican that LOOKED like Jim. Any who- whether or not Jim is or is not a pink pelican; that damn pelican can sing like a Mo-Fo. Jim uses an acoustic guitar and his voice to fill the air with a big-large-massive sound. He also uses some sort of sampler-recorder- to record loops on the fly so he can play solos or bass over a sampled rhythm. Not sure what type he is using but ya know, like one of those boss loop station thingy’s. Sounds cool and Jim pulls it off in a way that it is not an intrusion into the live experience.

Jim plays out a lot- I suggest going to see him. While you are at one of his shows; please be sure to mention that you saw that video of him sleeping- The footed P.J.s with dropdown backside really screams rock and roll.
