Tyler Mudrick-Review

Tyler Mudrick-Review

Tyler Mudrick is a solo musician based out of New Boston and is currently playing gigs around the area. In March he released his solo debut album "The Monster Under My Bed" which is available on ITunes and Amazon as well as some local coffee shops and retail outlets. Tyler sent me his CD to listen to and I am truly not sure what to think. I loved it, but I was pissed off too… I wanted to punch and hug Tyler all at the same time. Was the music good; yeah. What pissed me off? The MONSTERS!!!!

While listening and reviewing bands I always listen to the record a few times. For my first listen I took out my MP3 player and placed myself in bed late at night and got ready to fall asleep. I had my milk and cookies, my butt flap PJ’s, and my teddy bear. I wanted to sleep but F*%$ no! There are freaking monsters under my bed. I use to have nightmares all the time. I think it was from watching Dr. Who when I was five, but my mom says it is cause I wore socks to bed(I still wear socks to bed- ALL THE TIME). Tyler is bringing this all back to me and as I drift into sleep; the music makes the shadows in my room come alive.

The CD is not just guitar and vocals. The album is a complete band. The music paints a picture of a child’s life. Is it a kids album? No.. Not at all… The guitar hooks build and the key sounds in the background fill the void and emptiness. Meaningful lyrics set to an uncompromising original rock score. This rock score progresses and has hints of true country. It even dips its toes into some soulful southern fried blues. This album is certainly one to listen completely from start to finish in one sitting.

I am extremely interested in seeing Tyler play live. Since he is a solo artist, I am wondering how these tunes will sound stripped down. I don’t currently see any live shows on Tyler’s calendar but trust me- When I see one listed- I will be there- Front row- wearing my socks.
