Holmes- Live Review

Holmes- Live Review

Last night Penuche’s was host to the band Holmes. A band from Boston, this band makes it way to Concord every few months. The band performs a mix of soul and funk. Sounding like a mix of Stevie Wonder and Al Green, Holmes also delivers a nice touch of old style R&B.

The band was fantastic. Holmes was well rehearsed and tight as hell. A lot of the performance was covers and were played very well and created the sounds of the original almost perfectly. You could definitely notice that each member of the band were masters of their instrument. My one major issue though, way too loud. WAY WAY to loud. I could not even SHOUT loud enough to the person standing next to me for them to hear me. I MEAN WHEN YOU HAVE TO SHOUT DIRECTLY IN THE REAR OF PEOPLE FOR THEM TO HEAR YOU IT IS ANNOYING!!!WHAT???? IN THEIR REAR!!!! THEIR EAR!!! EAR!!!! CAN YOU HEAR ME???? I DIDN”T SAY REAR I SAID EAR!!! This makes for a less then enjoyable experience for me. I wanted to stay and listen to the band more because I loved what they were doing, but my ears could not take the volume anymore, so I had to leave.

When this band comes to town again, I will be in the audience. I just hope they turn down. A great performance, great singing and great playing was ruined by the volume.
