Brooks Young is a NEW dad, living in a NEW place and seems to be going in a NEW direction with his music. ALL THE THINGS ARE NEW. The Brooks Young Band is currently up in Gilford New Hampshire at Resort Recordings tracking a NEW single. Resort Recordings is a NEW recording studio and label founded by Franz Haase and Ryan Ordway in 2010. Since Brooks is such a nice guy he let us hear a rough cut of the NEW tune.

The Skeleton Beats are a punk band from Boston Massachusetts. I am a fan of true-real-badass punk and this band does it with one part Motorhead and one part New York Dolls. Amy Von Eerie is the lead singer and guitarist and we got a chance to sit down for a chat. We asked her our famous five questions and tried not to fan-freak out on her. Even us reporters sometimes become star struck when you get to meet such talent.

Live Sound: an Indie Band Guide

We have all been there, you are a musician and you are trying to play a show and do your own sound. When you are a band playing in bars that don’t provide their own sound guy, the duties of musician AND sound guy fall on you. Let’s face it though; you spent most of your time practicing your songs and instrument, not on how to run sound. Here are a few things that will help you get started. This is just a quick down and dirty overview so you can get a PA working without much experience.

They are having Weird Al Yankovic, Primus, and Irish Night with David Surette and the Jordan Tirrell-Wysocki Trio. Irish night takes places this Friday, February 6th at 8pm. I plan on being at this show on Friday. Why? Because it is going to be F(*&^ing fancy pants fun!.

Brooks Young Band, Concord NH, Music I use to think that using samples of other people’s music in my music was cheating. So I programmed my own drum loops and virtual instruments. I then thought that programming was cheating, so I learned to play drums for real. I then thought using store bought drums was cheating, so I made my own. I then thought that using premade drum heads was cheating, so I bought and killed a goat and made my own. I then thought........... Click read more below

"Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you.
