Review: Amy Gallatin & Stillwaters

Amy Gallatin & Stillwaters

My next assignment reviewing music was given to me and I have to say, it was a bit of a challenge. Though I love music, my heart belongs to one genre. This is not to say I don’t listen to anything else, but I don’t typically venture far from what I really like…Time to broaden my horizons.

Bluegrass/Country – yup, dare I say, I’ve listened, and though I wouldn’t be completely hooked, it did open a new and different avenue for me.

Amy Gallatin & Stillwaters’ – The new CD “Phoenix” is their first CD since the bands’ “Live in Europe” released in 2001. I was surprised to find that most of the tracks were remakes of original songs. Sometimes covers are better than the originals but I would have liked to have heard the Stillwaters’ own original music… with that said, I went onto their MySpace page and there I found their original music ( I suggest you do the same.

Each song brings a little something different to the table in it arrangement vocally and musically. It is well orchestrated and fun. That is the best way to describe their music. Each of the musicians and Amy’s voice is like a well oiled truck and works well when all the pieces are together.

This would be the type of band that I would like to see playing the local music hall. I think I would get a better appreciation for the music if I saw a live performance. If you have never hear of Amy Gallatin and the Stillwaters’, I think it is at least worth your time to take a listen…..hey you might just find out something that you never knew about yourself; you like Bluegrass/Country music.
